Wreaths Across America

The Wreaths Across America (WAA) Ceremony was held this past Saturday 16 December at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Cupertino/Los Altos. Thanks to those supporters who purchased wreaths and the community volunteers who helped lay over 1741 wreaths at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. This is our 8th year of our American Legion post hosting the ceremony and for the first time we had enough wreaths for the entire Veterans section and for the Veterans buried elsewhere in the cemetery. Pictures of the event can be viewed by clicking here.

Post 642 for the past 7 years has sponsored the Cupetino Wreaths Across America Ceremony with the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. This ceremony is to Remember and Honor our veterans by laying Remembrance wreaths on the graves of our country's fallen heroes.  This event is a community event as we have numerous Scout Troops, the Rotary and citizen volunteers who prepare the wreaths, the grave sites and lay the wreaths on the day of the ceremony.

Please help us honor and remember as many fallen heroes as possible by sponsoring remembrance wreaths, volunteering on Wreaths Day, or inviting your family and friends to attend with you.  The wreaths that are placed on the grave markers will remain on the Veteran graves through Christmas and New Years Day.

All proceeds from the sales of the wreaths goes to Veterans and Veteran groups, scholarships for DeAnza College veterans, the Fisher House and the Defenders Lodge at the Palo Alto VA, the Yountville Veterans Home and other local veteran groups.

Here is a recap of the National Wreaths Across America 2021 Campaign:

 • 2.4 million veterans’ wreaths were placed in total across the country – at Arlington National Cemetery specifically, the Wreaths Across America program saw 66 tractor trailers deliver over 250,000 veterans’ wreaths that were placed by nearly 38,000 volunteers.

• More than two million volunteers participated at 3,137 locations nationwide. More than a third of the volunteers were children.

• Over 525 truckloads of wreaths were delivered across the country by hundreds of volunteer professional truck drivers driving donated equipment and fuel from approximately 390 carriers.
